Another Blogger: Steps in Launching a New Blog

That's a good checklist. Thanks for sharing it. Yes, some people will want other items and some won't do all of them, but having a place to start is great.

"Setup user account (not the admin account)" - why user/not admin?
  • Aaron B. Hockley · 5 months ago
I like to setup a second account using my standard username both out of habit from when I did system administration as well as to have a second account "just in case" something goes wonky with one of them.

Oh. But it's not an admin account? I set up an account with my username, but it IS an admin account.

Depends how much separation you want. My user accounts are also admin accounts. Expert sysadmins would probably tell me I'm #doingitwrong

Great list. Reminded me of some plug-ins I forgot and exposed me to some new useful oness.

Wow great list Aaron! Good as an initial reference. I agree there could be a little more clarity on some items - "affiliate/ads" is one I'm interested in looking a bit more at.

This is going in my 'official reference' virtual file.

Thanks for sharing such a great checklist! I do not plan on starting up any new blogs soon, but am definitely bookmarking this. Some of those plugins look to be pretty useful (and new to me!) I wonder if your exclusion of a caching plugin was intentional or accidental? Wordpress blogs tend to have a reputation within Digg comment threads for dying under the strain of being dugg. I understand something like the WP-Cache plugin helps out significantly.

Also, I'd like to know a bit more about how you do OpenID integration. From some of your previous tweets (re: Vidoop), it sounds like you use a 3rd party server for this instead of hosting it yourself within Wordpress?

Nice to see OpenID on that list! ;)
